These are comments from participants in the Ninth Edition of the Balkan Legal Forum, which was held on June 27 – 28 in the best hotel in Vienna – Park Hyatt.
Borislav Boyanov, Managing Partner of Boyanov & Co., together with Norman Clark, Founding Partner at Walker Clark LLC, and Stephen Revell, Managing Partner at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Singapore, chaired the Balkan Legal Forum 2016.
Balkan Legal Forum is a bi-annual legal conference organised by the IBA European Regional Forum and the Legal Development Foundation with the kind support of IBA Law Firm Management Committee. The event attracted over 150 delegates from 30 countries from Europe, America, Africa, Asia and Australia. As with previous forums, the event was strongly supported by the team of Boyanov & Co.
The main theme on the first day of the conference was “South East Europe – Investment opportunities and challenges for the next five years”. Main topics included Private Equity activity in SEE, trends in the three most active sectors throughout South East Europe – Banking, Telecoms, Energy and infrastructure, Distressed Banks and NPLs as an Investment Opportunity, the theory and the reality of Investment Disputes, current oil price environment and its impact on the SEE region and the buyers/investors’ biggest worries during the M&A process.
The second day of the conference was devoted to Law Firm Management. The main topic was: “What is most important? Priorities in the legal markets of South East Europe for the next five years”. Prominent speakers discussed topics such as: Profitability and Competitive Advantage in the Legal Markets of South East Europe, Innovation and competitive advantage in legal services in South East Europe and Mergers, Networks, or “Just Friends”: What is the best competitive balance for law firms in South East Europe?
